The City of Hamilton's trade licences under By-law 07-170 cover plumbing, heating and air conditioning, drain laying and building repair. Flooring is not among them.
Skilled Trades Ontario issues a Certificate of Apprenticeship on completion, and a Certificate of Qualification to anyone who passes the certifying exam. A fitter who holds one can show it to you.
Nearly everyone working in Ontario construction, including independent operators and sole proprietors, has to carry WSIB coverage. Ask for the number and check it.

A floor plan does not show a bowed wall, a soft board under the old underpad or a staircase that winds at the bottom, so we measure in person before the quote is written.
Ontario law requires one on any home renovation worth more than $50, and ours lists materials, dates and the total with tax.
A renovation business in Ontario cannot charge more than 10% above the estimate it gave unless you ask for different work in writing. If the subfloor needs extra work once the old carpet is up, we stop, show you, and price it separately rather than moving the total quietly.
Ontario recommends a deposit of no more than 10% of the total, so ask any fitter who wants more than that why.

The Carpet and Rug Institute's residential standard requires a power stretch. Knee-kicking a room in is not a compliant installation, so we do not do it.
